In July of 2008, alan started a project that would carry her through the end of the year, the five elements project. From July to November alan released a single representing one of the five principal elements of Earth, Sky, Wind, Fire and Water. The first single was the Earth single 懐かしい未来 ～longing future～ which was used as the theme to NHK's SAVE THE FUTURE special. This single was alan's first chartting success, ranking in the top 20, as most of her singles since have. The choir version of the song (track 3) was given a music video on her debut Japanese album.
